SC 8/287/14339
Date
[1310-1327]
Description
Petitioners
William (Guilhem) de Foyres of Bordeaux.
Name(s)
de Foyres, William (Guilhem)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
William de Foyres of Bordeaux states that in the third year of the king's reign, Henry de Say, then his butler, took from Arnold de Lauberk, his merchant, at Newcastle upon Tyne, wines worth £53 5s 10d sterling, and gave him a tally and afterwards paid him 106., leaving £47 19s 10d. William has since sued for his payment, at great expense, leaving himself completely impoverished. He asks that the Constable of Bordeaux or his lieutenant might be ordered to pay him from the sum kept in the Duchy of Guyenne to pay the fees and costs of officials and the other expenses of the Duchy.
Nature of endorsement
He is to account in the wardrobe and produce the bill.
Places mentioned
Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France]
Newcastle upon Tyne, [Northumberland]
Duchy of Guyenne, [France].
People mentioned
Henry de Say, king's butler
Arnold (Arnaut) de Lauberk, merchant.
Note
Datable with reference to 3 Edward II (8 July 1309-7 July 1310) and to Henry de Say, king's butler, who was replaced as chief butler by Walter de Waldesheffe on 8 September 1309 (CPR 1307-13 p.188). But the petitioner has been suing for some time, so it is probably some years after 1310.
