Nature of request
Bernard de Libarren Doudemek states that he has served the king in the keeping of Gascony, in the company of William Raymond de Caumond, and has suffered for this both in body and in goods, so that he has nothing on which to live or with which to aid himself. He asks that he might be the king's servant, called a 'message' in the language of the country, in the sovereign territory of Soule and in the castellany of Mauleon, for term of life; and he requests the king's letters for this.

To my lord William Raymond de Caumond.He is to have a letter to the Seneschal and Constable to deliver the bailiwick to him to hold at the king's pleasure; and they are to inform the king quickly of the value.
