Nature of request
Peter Elegre, bailiff of the Lord of Caumont, states that he had lands, vines and rents in the honour of Marmande to the value of £50 tournois annually, and that in the war these were all seized by the people of the King of France. He requests letters to the Seneschal of Gascony to give him compensation for this damage in whatever place in Gascony it pleases the king.
Nature of endorsement
XII. The bailiff of the lord of Caumont. The king has ordained that certain [great people] will be sent quickly with full power to do the things which are appropriate and profitable for himself and his subjects; and the king will order them that, when they have informed themselves of his losses, they are to give him such recompense as is appropriate and as might reasonably suffice.

Note
Tentatively dated to c. 1338, with reference to ordinances made for compensation for damage to the Lord of Caumont's lands in Carte, vol. I p.89 (30 April 1338) and p.95 (28 April 1339). However, this petition seems to be dealing with Peter Elegre's own lands, not his master's, and the petition would seem to be earlier, from the aftermath of the war of St Sardos. From the similar request and identical response, contemporary with SC 8/287/14319, SC 8/287/14320, SC 8/287/14321, SC 8/287/14327, SC 8/287/14329, SC 8/288/14358 and SC 8/289/14409.
