Nature of request
Berthalot de Fayet requests the office of remembrancer in Bordeaux castle, with the accustomed fee, and the keeping of the papers of dead notaries, which he holds of the gift of the Seneschal of Gascony in the manner in which it was given by the king to John Monfichet. And he asks for no fee except 12d. sterling, provided that, if he is removed from office, he might keep the fee.
Nature of endorsement
The Constable is to be ordered that if he is suitable for the said office he is to receive him; but he is to receive no wages except for the accustomed 12d.

The petitioner has been granted this office by 21 June 14 Edward III (1340), as the Constable of Brodeaux is given instructions on that day about the payment of his wages, and on 14 September in the same year he is granted the power to make public instruments based on the papers in his keeping (m.11 of C 61/52).
