Description
Petitioners
Bernard (Bernat) de la Roture, esquire of Raymond Duraunt, Seneschal of the Landes.
Name(s)
de la Roture, Bernard (Bernat)
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
esquire of Raymond Duraunt, Seneschal of the Landes
Nature of request
Bernard de la Roture, esquire of Raymond Duraunt, Seneschal of the Landes, petitioning on behalf of himself and his brother William, states that they served the king's father in the war in Gascony, and that because of this they have lost all their inheritance in the Bazadais: rents worth £20 sterling and houses worth £200 sterling. They ask that, in compensation for this £20 of rent, they might have the land and goods of Peter de Ladyels, son of Galhard, and also of Arnold and Bernard de Ladyels, who have fought against the king in the war and are appealed, as their lands in the king's power are not worth the £20 that they have lost.
Nature of endorsement
Monsire Raymond Durant. The king has ordained that certain great people will be sent quickly with full power to do the things which are appropriate and profitable for himself and his subjects; and the king will order them that, when they have informed themselves of his losses, they are to give him such recompense as is appropriate and as might reasonably suffice.

Note
Tentatively dated to c. 1332 with reference to m. 7 of C 61/44, which contains a grant to Bernard de la Roture dated 10 May 6 Edward III (1332), and a mention of William de la Roture as the deputy of the king's butler, quoted in a writ of 5 March 5 Edward III (1331). But this grant does not appear to be in response to this petition, and does not necessarily give more than an approximate date for the petitioners.
