This series consists of a 7% statistical sample of contentious probate case files and papers. In some cases the application for grant of probate arises from intestacy or from a difficulty concerning the legality of a will, such as not being properly signed and/or witnessed, or where only a copy of the original will has survived; in other cases, the papers arise from a dispute between interested parties. The files contain all the documents in the case, such as affidavits, petitions, pleadings, etc, and a note of its outcome.
The files are arranged alphabetically within years, under testator's names.
