- Folios 229-230. From T R Sandford, Committee of Council on Education, to Robert Barrett, Schoolmaster, Southwell Union. Copy of pre-printed form showing the results of the examination taken by Mr Barrett on 16 February 1857 for the Committee of Council on Education. The results range between moderate and failure, and his overall skill as a teacher is rated as 'imperfect'. The Class of Certificate awarded to him is 'Permission', and as the average number of scholars under his care at the examination date was 10?, the sum allowed to the guardians for the parochial year ending Lady Day 1857 is £15 per year.Annotated 20 March 1857, asks for a copy to be sent to the guardians. A further note to the form adds that this certificate will not be renewed without great improvements in skills in teaching and in attainment.
