- Folio 223. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to John Kirkland, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southwell Union. They acknowledge receipt of his letter of 19 February 1857 with regard to the pauper relief account between the Southwell Union and Worksop Unions. The Board draws the guardians attention to the Wycombe Union and Eton Union case reported in the Law Times Vol 28 p.257 and the Justices of the Peace of 31 January 1857. Before delivering an opinion on that decision, the Board will wait for the publication of the regular reports' as they believe the reports in the weekly papers are not entirely correct. Meanwhile, the Board feel the guardians are justified in withholding payment of the account.
