- Folio 209. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to John Kirkland, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southwell Union. They acknowledge receipt of a letter of 5 February 1857 with regard to the proposed amended form for the valuation of the Edwinstowe [Edwinstow] suggested by Mr Baily and Mr Mellows, the valuers contracted by the Southwell Union. The Board states that the valuers have nothing to do with the parish overseers and are only required to do their valuations as they find them. They feel future difficulties may arise if the contract terms are departed from. The Board however, see no reason why properties under the same owner should not be grouped together when situated in the same part of the parish.
