- Folio 193. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to John Kirkland, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southwell Union. They acknowledge receipt of his letter of 21 January 1857 with regard to the case of Mary Marshall. The Board are refusing to sanction the proposed relief to be granted; and state that if Marshall can afford to pay 1/6 per week towards maintenance of her child in the workhouse, she should endeavour to place it elsewhere.
