Content
Folios 183-184. Letter from John Kirkland, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southwell Union, to the Poor Law Board, presenting a case for non-resident relief for their approval. The case involves Ann Duckmanton (30), a widow with a baby called Ann Duckmanton and a child, Elizabeth Ann Duckmanton (3 years). They belong to Kneesal [Kneesall] and receive 4/- per week, but wish to live with Duckmanton's mother in North Searle in the Newark Union, where she comes from and where she feels she would secure employment. The Southwell guardians have no objections; and the relief, if granted, would be administered by the Newark Union according to the General Consolidation Order.Annotated, to sanction the relief, although Mr Lambert does not feel he has 'sufficient experience to speak confidently'.
