- Folios 97-98. From Richard Milward, Chairman of the Board of Guardians, to the Poor Law Board. Pre-printed form entitled 'Appointment of the Clerk to the Guardians'. This lists the details of John Kirkland, the newly appointed clerk, a 34 year old law clerk and 'secretary to the savings bank', due to commence his duties on 24 June 1856, at a salary of £90 per year. John Whitaker, an Upton farmer, and William Hurt, a Weston farmer, gave sureties.Annotated, by Mr Manwaring; points out that the 'Nature and Amount of Security proposed' has not been answered, and requests the information.
