Folios 52-53. Letter from Thomas Pawson, Relieving Officer, Southwell, to the Poor Law Board, giving a full and detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the removal of the pauper Mr Noble to the Derby Lunatic Asylum. He says that the case arose when a woman applied for relief, her husband being in a 'low state of Mind'. He gave the surgeon the notice to visit who then concluded that Noble 'was insane', He states his actions were taken in conformity with the 'Act of Parliament' and refers to the dispute over his expenses. He asks for the Board's opinion on the matter.Annotated notes: 10 April 1856; to send copy of this letter to the guardians for their observations.
