Folios 314-316. Letter from Thomas Marriott, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southwell Union, to the Poor Law Commission, enclosing, as requested, a solemn declaration by an old and respected inhabitant, William Johnson Gregory of Ollerton who has lived there for over 17 years. He relates the history of the debt to William Hodgson Barrow, Nottinghamshire magistrate, setting forward the circumstances under which money was borrowed and repaid [in regard to an apportionment of the quota arising from the sale of the workhouse and lands, formally belonging to the Thurgarton Incorporation]. In the covering letter sanction of the sum due to Ollerton towards the liquidation of the debt, now owing, is requested. There are enclosed documents summarising the background circumstances leading to the outstanding debt. The sum of £52:3:3 payable to the parish in respect of the Thurgarton Incorporation property will be used in part payment of the outstanding debt.
