The duke of Uzeda to Jennings in Spanish on 30 April: the court at Vienna has been advised that Jennings has been sent orders from London to evacuate the troops from Catalonia at British expense. He is to buy 2,000 quintals of salt beef at Port Mahon. He asks Jennings to set down his thoughts on the evacuation and on Naples. Dated at Genoa. English translation of the above. Captain [George] Paddon to Dartmouth on 13 May enclosing copies of letters from the alcaid and Mr. Nash. He is being pressed to come to Mequiness and told that the prisoners will not be released until he does. He has been informed by eminent Jews that the queen has great influence. He recommends presents and the sending of a consul. Dated on board Ruby at Gibraltar. Captain [George] Paddon to Dartmouth on 16 April on presents for the emperor and queen of Morocco. Dated on board Ruby at Gibraltar. Gawen Nash to Captain [George] Paddon on 12 May: the English masters at Mequiness will never be released unless Paddon goes there. The king has prepared a magnificent reception for him. No other embassy to the king has received such encouragement. Dated at Tangier. Alcaid Muhamed El Andalus to Paddon in Spanish on 23 Mulud 1125: the king has commanded him to write to Paddon to tell him that as soon as he sees fit to come to court he has leave to do so.
