[Vice Admiral] John Baker to Dartmouth from the Azores, where he has been ordered by the Spanish court to look for the Portuguese Brazil fleet. He has since learned that they will not sail until the end of May, and his provisions will not last that long. From a captured French merchantman he has learnt of a French squadron which appears to be bound for South America with landing and siege equipment. List of these warships and their commanders. He has provisions to stay for only three weeks longer, after which he will sail for Lisbon. Dated on board Somerset in the road of Angra, Terceira, Azores. No. 85
