[Brigadier] Hill to St John: he encloses a duplicate of his letter of 31 July [SP 42/68/54]: loss of eight transports [named] and scattering of 26 companies of infantry. He encloses the resolution of a council of war. A further council of war has deemed an attack on Placentia impracticable. He has reinforced the garrison of Annapolis and asked the admiral to station a ship there. Dated on board Windsor in 'Spanish River'. No. 60
