Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/338/E1260
Date
[1305-1306]
Description
Petitioners
People of Gascony, merchants and others.
Addressees
Council.
Nature of request
The people request the annulment of the custom as it was before the war, as they come into England with their merchandise, and when they have made their delivery they desire to carry things of use in their country and to give to their friends, and the customers of London and England were used to take customs from Gascons that they pay customs on all these things they move in their own country.
Nature of endorsement
The custom of the king is granted in his land, and he does not wish to annul it.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France]
London.
Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548.
Related material

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
