Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/338/E1258
Date
[1305-1306]
Description
Petitioners
Jean Constantin, proctor of the seigneur de Sorde.
Name(s)
Constantin, Jean
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
proctor of the seigneur de Sorde
Nature of request
Constantin shows that whereas all the letters of wages of gentlemen of Gascony were changed under the great seal of the king by ordinance of the last parliament held at London, and the petitioner was then in Gascony with two letters of wages of the seigneur de Sorde, and when he became aware of the ordinance he came to England, and has resided four months or more because Sandale was in Scotland. He requests that the two letters be renewed under the great seal as letters of wages of other gentlemen of Gascony are renewed, and that certain grace be done to him so that he is able to return into the country and a certain thing set out for his letters as otherwise he will not be able to return to Gascony.
Nature of endorsement
He should show his letters to John de Sandale, and he will make to change them.
Places mentioned
Sorde-l'Abbaye, [Gascony, France]
Scotland
Gascony, [France]
London.
People mentioned
John de Sandale.
Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548.
Related material

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
