Reference
SC 8/338/E1255
Date
[1305-1306]
Description
Petitioners
Pierre Arnaud, of Bonnegarde, burgess of Bayonne.
Name(s)
Arnaud, Pierre
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Bonnegarde, [Gascony, France]
Bayonne, [Gascony, France].
Nature of request
Arnaud requests that he can be released from prison and allowed to go to Bayonne, and to be the king's man, and he will find pledges to answer any complaints against him in the court of the mayor of Bayonne.
Nature of endorsement
He should sue at the next parliament and the king will ordain according to what he considers ought to be done.
Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548. Entries in the close rolls show that the petitioner was in prison in 1305 and only delivered into the hand of the cardinal bishop of Sabina in 1307 (CCR 1302-7, pp. 258, 411, 491).
