Reference
SC 8/338/E1245
Date
[1305-1306]
Description
Petitioners
Treasurers and parishioners of the parishes of St Sampson, St Peter Port, St Martin de la Bellehouse, Holy Trinity de la Foree, St Andrew and Notre Dame de Torteval, Guernsey.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioners complain show that the predecessors of the abbot and convent of Marmoutier and the parsons of the churches have made the third part of the repairs of their churches, but the current abbot and convent and parsons do not wish to make the third part of the repairs, and they request that twelve law-worthy men to enquire of this matter.
Nature of endorsement
Reparations to the church should be specified to the ordinaries of that place.
Places mentioned
St Sampson parish, [Guernsey, Channel Islands]
St Peter Port parish, [Guernsey, Channel Islands]
St Martin de La Bellehouse parish, [Guernsey, Channel Islands]
Holy Trinity de la Foree (Forest) parish, [Guernsey, Channel Islands]
St Andrew parish, [Guernsey, Channel Islands]
Notre Dame de Torteval parish, [Guernsey, Channel Islands]
Marmoutier, [Touraine, France].
People mentioned
Abbot and convent of Marmoutier.
Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548.
Related material

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
