SC 8/338/E1244
Date
[1305-1306]
Description
Petitioners
Garsy Arnaud d'Espelette, seigneur de Espelette.
Name(s)
d'Espelette; , seigneur de Espelette, Garsy Arnaud
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Arnaud requests that new letters patent are made for him to enquire of the status of the parish of Ainhoa, as those made for him when the king was at Bordeaux were lost with other goods of the petitioner in the war. The parish is said by the people of Navarre to be of the lordship of Navarre, and by the king's people of Labourd to be of the king's lordship. If the matter is not enquired of, it will be to the great prejudice of the king, and to the great damage of the petitioner to whom the king has granted these lands in fee. The letter was not enrolled in Chancery, and is not otherwise to be found.1)
Nature of endorsement
Gascony.2) Let it be ordered to the seneschal of Gascony that he deliberate with his council upon the contents of this petition, and he is to do further just as he considers is best to be done for the profit of the king.

Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548.

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
