Chalayrans states that he served the king throughout all the war of Gascony, and was seised and in possession of the cognizance of crimes on public roads and paths, and to carry arms for himself and his men-at-arms throughout his power without licence of the lord, the seneschal of Perigord prevents him from these of new after the war, and the senschal's sergeants after the war, of new, enter into his power to make summonses and executions in other cases other than those of resort, wrongly and against reason. Chalayrans requests grace and remedy that the seneschal be commanded that he follow the uses as before the war, and that he not allow any of his sergeants to exercise jurisdiction in the petitioner's power except in cases of resort as has been accustomed. Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548.
Related material

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
