Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/338/E1233
Date
[1305-1306]
Description
Petitioners
Arnaud de Munsac (Monsac), esquire of Gascony.
Name(s)
de Munsac (Monsac), Arnaud
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France].
Nature of request
Munsac requests grace and remedy as he has served the king in all his wars, and for this service has lost all his lands which are destroyed and ruined, and the fruits of the lands are lost for the last ten years, and as he is not able to put the land in estate or return to his country without the king's aid.
Nature of endorsement
If the king is bound to him in a certain debt, then satisfaction should be made to him just as to others in his condition.
Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548. The petition can possibly be more precisely dated to? c. 1305 as provision was made to pay the petitioner for sums due to him in April 1305, though an earlier provision dates to 1299 (Roles Gascons, vol. III, nos. 4531 (68), 4976 (7), 4981 (3)).
Related material

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
