Nature of request
Sescans requests that the seneschal of Gascony be ordered by letters that he will put the petitioner in the service of the king in a baillie or other office that the seneschal considers him sufficient so that he has something to live from until he is able to return to Sault peaceably and have recovery of his lands and tenements there that he and his retinue lost because of his service to the king.
Nature of endorsement
Let the seneschal be ordered that if any baille be void, and it be sufficient for him, he should make him have it.
Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548. The petition can possibly be more precisely dated to? c. 1305 on the basis of a related entry in the Gascon Rolls (Roles Gascons, vol. III, no. 4745).
