Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/338/E1220
Date
[1305-1306]
Description
Petitioners
Guillaume de Morin Rivel.
Name(s)
de Morin Rivel, Guillaume
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France]
Entre-Deux-Mers, [Guyenne, France]
Burstwick, [East Riding of Yorkshire].
Nature of request
Morin Rivel requests grace concerning the losses in Gascony of his houses, lands, rents and woods that were destroyed and cut for the war in Gascony whereby he is ruined. He further requests that he is able to have the baille of Entre-Deux-Mers as his father held it in his lifetime.
Nature of endorsement
If the king is bound to him in anything let him be paid just as has been done to certain others of those parts. Concerning the having of the baillie, the seneschal of Gascony should ordain what he considers best to be done. Concerning the residue he should consider himself content of the reversion made to him at Burstwick.
Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted where necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548. The petition can possibly be more precisely dated to 1304 as the petition refers to provisions made for the petitioner at Burstwick, and mandates on the Gascon Rolls dated at Burstwick date to October and November 1304 (Roles Gascons, vol. III, nos. 4602-71)
Related material

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
