Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/338/E1219
Date
[1305-1306]
Description
Petitioners
The sons of Gaillard de Biron.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The sons state that the king will have regard for the damages and losses that their father suffered in the king's service, his lands and houses being destroyed, and he having lost the issues of the same during the ten years of peace, and that they are orphans and have nothing except by God and the king's aid, and they request that they can recover the same or be compensated in another manner.
Nature of endorsement
If the king is bound to them in anything, let payment be made to just as to others of their condition, and of the others they should hold himself content.
People mentioned
Gaillard de Byron (Biron), father of the petitioners.
Note
The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted where necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548. This petition is dated to? 1299-c. 1307 as the petitioners did receive a grant of sustenance in August 1299, though this does not seem to be in response to this petition (Roles Gascons, vol. III, no. 4531 (116)).
Related material

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
