Date
[? 1492-? 1509]
Description
Petitioners
William Lamkyn.
Name(s)
Lamkyn, William
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Lamkyn shows that Ellis has feigned various quarrels and suits against him in the Exchequer as well as the sessions in Norfolk which have always passed in favour of the petitioner, but have put him to a great cost, and it is Ellis's intention to impoverish him as much as he is able. To this end he has put a forged obligation in 100s into the Exchequer to vex the petitioner, Ellis being learned in the law and of greater substance than the petitioner. Lamkyn requests that, considering the premises, the king command his attorney to cease and discharge the petitioner concerning the forged obligation.
Nature of endorsement
[None, though there is a sign manual on the face].
Places mentioned
Norwich, [Norfolk]
Norfolk.
People mentioned
William Elys (Ellis) of Norwich.
Note
The petition is dated to? 1492-? 1509 on the basis of the guard note. This dates the petition to Henry VII's reign after August 1492 on the basis of the sign-manual entered on the face. The justification for this dating is unclear.
