Nature of request
Penynges shows that he is seised of a free chapel of Our Lady called the free chapel of the Leygh, otherwise called the Moote in Sussex, and by virtue of which his predecessors were seised of an annuity of £10 from the manor of Luddenham, until a little before Jack Cade's days, and the petitioner has often sent his servants to distrain for the annuity, but the manor is now in the hand of Frognall, and distrainst are rescued and a great number of people come armed and defend Frognall so that no distraint can be had and the petitioner's servants dare not go there. Penynges requests that the king grants his letters of the privy seal directed to Frgnall commanding him to appear before the king at a certain day under a certain pain to answer to the premises.

[On face:]Let letters be sent 16 May, 20 Edw. IV to appear at Westminster in the feast of Trinity under pain of 100 marks.[Ondorse:]By the hand of the king by the advice of the council at Black Friars, London. 17 May in the 20th year. Present the Lord Chancellor; the bishop of Rochester, keeper of the privy seal; the bishops of Bath, Ely and Norwich; Lord Hastings, Dudley, etc. [Signed Langport].
