Description
Petitioners
Walter Griffitz (Griffith), knight.
Name(s)
Griffitz (Griffith), Walter
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Griffitz requests that the king send his letters under the privy seal to Christopher Harper and the others commanding them to appear before the king and the lords of the council at a certain day under a certain pain to answer the premises and such other things that at their coming will be laid against them. Griffitz complains that on 6th August Harper and the others broke his park in his lordship of Whitmore, and there killed four deer, and night and day continued to do so. On 25th October following they also came to his several pastures in his lordship of Alrewas and took all the beasts and cattle of his tenants and then took them in the several pastures to a place called Alrewas Hey and put them in the pinfold there, unlawfully keeping them until the tenants agreed with them to pay whatever money they desire. On the same day they came and assaulted the petitioner's bailiff and drove his other tenants and servants to Whitmore where they staid several days because they dared not leave.
Nature of endorsement
[On face].Letters just as requested 25th April in the 20th year are to be sent for them to appear at Westminster in the morrow of St John next under pain of £40 each.[On dorse].Bill of Walter Griffitz.

William Pynder (Pinder), bailiff to the petitioner in his lordship.
Note
The petition is dated to 1480 as this petition and many of the others in this file seem to be part of a file of that date, all having a response on the face dating the petition to the twentieth year of the king's reign, and the hand indicating a petition of Edward IV's reign, and some having clearly stated that the regnal year is that of Edward IV.
