Nature of request
The Abbot and Convent request that the king send his letters under the privy seal to Roger Draycote commanding him to appear before the king and the lords of the council at a certain day to answer the premises and to receive such further direction as accord with right and reason. Draycote came to their grange of Birchall and took large numbers of their livestock and drove to his land, and they are much destroyed and famished their, and Draycote has conspired with the sheriff who will do nothing to help replevy them. He also withholds tithes from the pasture of Consall park and ironstone mine, and has procured for his uncle to take an assize against the abbot for the keeping and executing of the office of the stewardship and manor of Leek, though he has no right to the same, and because of his nephews influence he is likely to recover the same. Roger Draycote is of such power that the abbot cannot pursue this.

Note
The petition is dated to 1480 as this petition and many of the others in this file seem to be part of a file of that date, all having a response on the face dating the petition to the twentieth year of the king's reign, and the hand indicating a petition of Edward IV's reign, and some having clearly stated that the regnal year is that of Edward IV.
