Description
Petitioners
Robert Cosyn (Cousin) of Beechamwell.
Name(s)
Cosyn (Cousin), Robert
Addressees
King and the lords of his honourable council.
Nature of request
Cosyn complains that Gregory Lovell with the servants of Ralph and Thomas Lovell numbering 24 or more, armed, came to his house and by force and arms broke it and took his livestock, goods and chattels, and broke a chest and took the evidences of the petitioner, despite his wife's protests, they saying that they had the power of the escheator and that the petitioner was indicted of felony. He requests that this be considered and that as the petitioner is of no power to sue by law, that Gregory and Thomas Lovell will answer to these premises, they being before the lords and council to answer to other matters.
Nature of endorsement
... Robert Cosyn against Gregory Lovell and others.
Places mentioned
Beechamwell, Norfolk.
People mentioned
Gregory Lovell
Ralph Lovell
Thomas Lovell.
Note
The petition is dated to? c. 1504 as the petition refers to the nineteenth regnal year, and the hand seems to fit a document of the early sixteenth century. In addition, Lovells of the names found in the petition were active throughout the patent rolls of this time.
