Description
Petitioners
John Aungere of Somerset.
Name(s)
Aungere, John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Aungere held the manor of Angersleigh which was granted and let to him by Dorset, Rydon and Borde for the term of his life, and of which he was seised until Cheddar came, after the king last went to his duchy of Normandy, with force and arms and ousted the petitioner, and carried away his goods and chattels there. Aungere requests that by the king's letters Cheddar is commanded to be before the king and council to answer for the wrongs. The petitioner reminds the king that he served him in Normandy in castle garrison, and is now impoverished and has nothing to live on and is begging, and he states that Cheddar is a great maintainer, extortioner and oppressor of the king's people. He asks that Cheddar be made to come before the king and council before the king next departs.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Knightheesleigh (Angersleigh), Somerset
Westminster
Normandy, [France].
People mentioned
John Dorset
John Rydon
William Borde
Richard Chedder (Cheddar).
Note
The petition is dated to? c. 1421 as the petition refers to the king's last trip to his duchy of Normandy, and this must refer to the trip in 1417 which lasted until early 1421, and it refers to the king's next departure, and this is presumably the departure in June 1421, which might explain the urgency expressed by the petitioner.
