Nature of request
The Master and brethren request that the king write to the earl of Salisbury charging him to deliver their housebote and haybote which they were granted by King Henry and which they have received ever since, or if this is not possible because of a need to preserve the woods then they request that in recompense and discharge of their grant of housebote and haybote that they are granted in perpetuity the York mills below the castle rendering nothing for the same, the same reverting to the king after the death of Langton to whom the king granted the same for life. They request clauses in the proposed grant that they can have their housebote and haybote should the grant of the mills be revoked.
