Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/334/E1188
Date
[c. 1290-1307]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Kendale.
Name(s)
de Kendale, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Somerset
Wales
Scotland
Somerton Foreign hundred, Somerset.
Nature of request
Kendale states that he has served the king in peace and in his wars of Wales and Scotland, and has lost 20 marks or more in horses and harness, and his left arm was broken and he was pierced through the right shoulder by a sward so that he is maimed and his estate much diminished. He requests the beadlery of the hundred of Somerton for life since it renders nothing to the Exchequer and is therefore not to the detriment of the king.
Nature of endorsement
1) Coram rege. 2) Nothing is to be done in respect of this.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1290-1307 because the petition refers to late queen, so is clearly after the death of Queen Eleanor of Castile in that year. As the petition also refers to Edward I's Scottish wars, it is likely that the petition is later in the 1290s, or early in the fourteenth century.
