Exchequer plaint of Langele complaining of Abingdon and his clerk as he brought a writ of Monstra against Cordel by which he was taken and [imprisoned], but Abingdon and his clerk by authority of their office and without warrant delivered Cordel [...] without making an answer according to the law and custom of the realm [so that he cannot be] served of his damages, whereon he requests remedy.1)

The plaint is dated to c. 1319 as it appears that this plaint was part of a file (SC 8/334/E1154-E1183B) that seems to date to the York parliament held in 1319 (cf. SC 8/334/E1183B). The plaint refers to Abingdon who was sheriff from Michaelmas 1314 to Michaelmas 1315 (List of Sheriffs, p. 201).
