Description
Petitioners
John de Ludham; Alexander de Mounfort; William de Swynford.
Name(s)
de Ludham; de Mounfort; de Swynford, John; Alexander; William
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Ludham, Mounford and Swynford, tenants of part of the lands that were Fitz Drew's state that the lands were charged to the king by the Jewry with a great sum, part of which they paid to the late king in his thirty fifth year as is attested by the great roll in the Exchequer, and by the account of the late sheriff, but Neville has come and distrained them grievously in their land at Riby so that they are not able to have the profit from their land, though they do not hold but a fifth of the land charged with the sum. They request that they be granted a writ to enquire of into whose hand the lands of Fitz Drew have come, and to apportion the debt between the land tenants so that allowance is given to the petitioners for the money that they have already paid, and that they not be distrained again until the apportionment is done.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they inspect the statute of Jews, and hear the complaints of them upon the contents in the petition and make a remedy and do justice to them, just as by right ought to be done.
Places mentioned
Riby, [Lincolnshire].
People mentioned
William le Fiz Dreu (Fitz Drew)
Thomas de Burham, late sheriff of Lincoln
John de Nevill (Neville), sheriff of Lincolnshire.
Note
