SC 8/334/E1140A
Date
[c. 1316]
Description
Petitioners
William Lestreveyn of Pontefract.
Name(s)
Lestreveyn, William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Lestreveyn requests remedy. He recovered £40 before Louther and his companions, justices assigned to hear and determine various felonies and trespasses committed by Salvayn and his ministers, by the verdict of a good inquisition of knights and others for the petitioner's vile imprisonment. Lestreveyn then sued to the sheriff to levy the sum from Salvayn's lands and chattels, but the sheriff answered that he could not do so because Salvayn had granted away his lands and sold his chattels that he had in deceit of the people and in delay of their recovery as well of the king and others who have recovery of their damages by judgment, and they will be unable to have recovery.
Nature of endorsement
Let the record be made to come before the king by writ making mention of the execution that is till to be done, and there let a remedy be given.
People mentioned
Hugh de Louther, justice
Gerard Salvayn, late sheriff [of Yorkshire].
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1316 on the basis of the dating of SC 8/334/E1128, a petition by Salvayn on a closely related matter.
