Name(s)
de Acton; de Barton, John; Nicholas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Acton and Barton request that the inquisition taken by the escheator after the death of Robert de Acton be returned into Chancery and that right be done to them upon it. The escheator has seized all of Robert de Acton's land in Somerset, Dorset and Gloucester and the inquisition found that he held no land of the king, but only of the petitioners, and they sued to have the inquisition returned, but the escheator still retains it.
Nature of endorsement
Because the escheator answers below that he has been ordered to take those tenements into the king's hand to keep the safe, with no mention that the inquisitions should be retained or returned, therefore let it be ordered by writ of the great seal to him that the inquisition be returned into Chancery without delay.
