Reference
SC 8/334/E1127
Date
[c. 1315]
Description
Petitioners
Geoffrey Ridel (Riddell).
Name(s)
Ridel (Riddell), Geoffrey
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Ridel requests that a remedy is ordained so that he is not troubled or entangled by the allegations of his petit tenants as his father has given the king and his council to understand that the petitioner does not have any estate in his land of Wittering, nor in the advowson of the church there except at the will of the king, when the petitioner was enfeoffed of the same by his father of the same and has continued in possession of the same peacefully for 23 years, and after the war when his father returned to the king's peace he made a quitclaim to him.
Nature of endorsement
The petitioner came before the council and brought his charter of feoffment which was given at Wittering and bore the date Saturday 20th September 1292, and because the land contained in the petition was not seized into the hand of the king, the petitioner should have and hold it together with the advowson, and should leave without a day.
Places mentioned
Wittering, [Northamptonshire].
People mentioned
Hugh Ridel (Riddell), father of the petitioner.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1315 as the charter of feoffment is dated to September 1312 and the petitioner refers to his peaceful seisin for 23 years after the feoffment.
