Nature of request
Mortemer requests remedy so that he is not disinherited as Lloyd and ap Eynon were indicted of robbery and many other felonies made by them in the liberty of St Clears by solemn inquisition and were imprisoned as felons, when, by order of Martin, Phelip and other ministers of Carmarthen by force and arms broke the prison of St Clears belonging to the petitioner and took the prisoners to Carmarthen where they are still detained. Mortemer has requested their delivery in award and judgement of the peers of the county but the justice has delayed.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by writ of the great seal to the justice of South Wales that he inform himself with others of the king's council upon the contents of this petition, and if Mortemer is able to show that he has this liberty then he should cause his error to be amended, and if there is a difficulty so that he is not able to proceed then he should inform the king and council.

Note
The petition is dated to 1315-1316 on the basis of the dating ascribed to this petition by Rees. Rees noted that the petitioner served in the office of justice of Wales from 1308-1315, and again from 1316 to 1322, and that in the time between the two terms, William Martin held the office, and it is actions that the petitioner complains of.
