Nature of request
Stapledon requests that the truth of his rights in the church of St Buryan are enquired of in any manner that the council ordains, and that remedy is made for the salvation of the church. Stapledon states that all manner of spiritual jurisdictions in the church of St Buryan pertain to him in the name of the church of Exeter, and as he has in other parish churches of his diocese, and as pertained to his predecessors. Nevertheless Edward I presented Manton to the benefice of dean in the church after the death of Hamelton who had been presented by the bishop, the late king making the presentation because of an untruthful allegation put to him that this was a free chapel, and made a further presentation on Manton's death all without institution of the bishop.

Let it be ordered to Matthew the dean that he come before the council to answer the bill and to inform the council of the king's rights in this part.
