Description

Nicholas Burnel, knight.
Name(s)
Burnel, Nicholas
Nature of request
[The petition is damaged on its right-hand side, though the sense is pretty clear].Burnel requests letters to the seneschal and feodary of the honour of Wallingford commanding them to surcease their distresses upon the petitioner until the month of Easter when [...]. Outrageous distresses had been made upon the petitioner for homage and fealty for the manor of Rissington claiming that the manor was held from the prince in chief. The council of Burnel has shown by charters that Burnel's estate is only for a term of years and the steward and 'feoder' were commanded to surcease their distresses, but because there were no letters directed to them they continued to make distresses within the manors.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
