- [The petition is damaged on its right-hand side, though the sense is pretty clear].The prior [requests remedy] as King John granted 20s. and half an acre of land in [...] [to the church of St] Stephen of Launceston and the canons there for the salvation of his soul and that of his father in free alms, a gift that subsequent kings have confirmed. The prior and convent have shown the charters to [the prince's] ministers in Cornwall but nevertheless they distrain the prior and convent to make suit in the court of [...] and claiming contributions to tenths though this is against their charter and confirmations.
