[The petition is badly damaged on its right-hand side, though the sense is pretty clear].The tenants request that the prince's council [will command] the parson of Cottingham to desist from his grievous distresses, [and that they can hold their lands and tenements] according to their ancient customs. It was found by an inquisition that the tenants held their tenements by [...] or making fines for each alienation of their lands or tenements [and are able to] alienate or sell them without paying a relief, but the parson claims they hold at will and makes grievous distraints upon them contrary to what was found by the inquisition.
