Nature of request
Edmund, Duke of York, requests payment with arrears of the annuities granted to him by Richard II of £400 to be taken from the customs and subsidies on wool, hides and wool-fells in the port of Kingston-upon-Hull, and of 500 marks in the port of Boston, despite the ordinance made at the last Parliament at Westminster that all annuities from wool, hides and wool-fells should not be paid, and that no such grants should be made in the future, since these annuities are a large part of his inheritance.
Nature of endorsement
On 6 May in the 2nd year etc. the King sent this petition to the chancellor to show it to the council. And on the next morning the petition was read before the council. It was agreed that the Duke of York should have assignment of the amounts contained within to be paid from the customs and subsidies of wool, hides and wool-fells due to the King by the Duke's tenants in his lordship of Grantham until the same amounts have been paid to the Duke, saving always the assignment made for the town and marches of Calais.
