Nature of request
Wake recites the descent of the manors of Knaresborough and Boroughbridge from the time of Henry II, and requests restitution of the manors, since they were taken into the King's hand by King John while Eustace, son and heir of Robert de Stuteville, was in his mother's womb, and so could not claim his inheritance.1)
Nature of endorsement
Before the King.2) The treasurer and chamberlains were ordered to search the remembrances of the Exchequer to discover the reason the manors had come into the King's hand, when, in whose time, and if any of the King's progenitors were seised of the same manors before the time of King John, and it should likewise be searched in Chancery between now and the next Parliament.
