Description
Petitioners
John Cornewaill (Cornwall), knight; Elizabeth Lancastre (Lancaster), Countess of Huntingdon, wife of John Cornewaill (Cornwall), widow of John Holland, late Earl of Huntingdon.
Name(s)
Cornewaill (Cornwall); Lancastre (Lancaster), Countess of Huntingdon, John; Elizabeth
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
John Cornewaill and his wife Elizabeth, Countess of Huntingdon, request justice concerning the lands late of John Blanchard. John Blanchard was seised of various lands which in Richard II's time he granted to Milborne, who by his charter granted the same to Holland and Elizabeth, then his wife, who held the same until expelled by the King's letters patent to Tilly to hold the same until John, son and heir of John Blanchard, reached his full age. It was found by inquisition that Blanchard was seised of the premises as above and demised them to Milborne for life, and then died leaving John Blanchard, his son, a minor in the King's custody, and Milborne alienated the premises to Holland and Shelly and their heirs, by reason of which alienation entry should pertain to the heir, and the messuage, land and bailiwick are held of the King in chief and so pertain to the King by reason of the heir's minority. The petitioners claim that Blanchard did not demise the premises to Milborne for life or the latter alienate them.
