Nature of request
The abbot of St Augustine, Canterbury requests remedy because John son of Thomas de Brenle accused Graveney, Orfreiser and many other of the abbot's men of the death of his brother Christian, and the plea was pending for such a long time through the plotting of the mayor and bailiffs of Faversham that the King caused the record and process to be brought before him when cognisance belongs to the warden of the Cinque Ports. He also requests that a justice hear and determine the appeal so that he and his men can be released.1)
Nature of endorsement
It is permitted for the King to release the appellees on bail until the day of the plea, and thereon he made a writ ... sufficient bail whence they will answer, namely each in person, ... and they will explain to the King there what malice interfered with their appeal.2) It seems to the council that a justice can be assigned to hear and determine the appeal.3) Brabazon and Spigurnel should be assigned.
