Description

John de Floure (Flors), valet.
Name(s)
de Floure (Flors), John
Addressees
King.
Occupation
valet
Nature of request
John de Flors shows that his father served the king's father well and loyally during the war in Gascony, and was in the garrison of the castle of Bourg at his own expense, so that his wife had to sell her inheritance to support him. He was then captured and put to death by the French. She was unable to recover her inheritance. The petitioner for his service and his future service and the loss of his inheritance, requests that he might have £30 (Tournois) from the wood of Royan for the term of his life.
Nature of endorsement
[The response is only just visible under the portion of the guard attached to the petition].Petition of J. de Flors, 'domicellus' of Gascony.

Note
The petition is dated to c. 1317-c. 1330 because the petition appears to be part of a file of Gascon petitions that date to this approximate date (SC 8/330/E979-E994). Few of the petitions have proved easily datable, only SC 8/330/E987 proving of any real use, referring to John de Weston as the former chamberlain of Scotland, and he ceased to hold that office in 1317. Several of the petitions seem to refer to war service, and it is unclear whether these are references to the war in the last years of Edward I or to that of St Sardos, hence the late date of c. 1330.
